Creole City, Creole Cuisine!

Cooking Demo and French Quarter Walking Tour (with lunch)

New Orleans School of CookingConversations about New Orleans and its history always come back to FOOD. This is the tour experience for those who want to get right to the point. The day begins at the New Orleans School of Cooking, where you get to relax and enjoy while a master chef and storyteller prepares classic Creole dishes before your eyes. You'll learn not only how to make old-time favorites like gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, and crawfish etouffé (and mouth-watering desserts like bread pudding, bananas foster, and pralines), but also how they fit in with the history and culture of New Orleans.

After the cooking demo, it's lunch time! And then, after enjoying all the dishes prepared just for you, we'll stroll through the French Quarter and add some historical insight to your newfound culinary expertise. Your licensed guide will describe the origins and early development of New Orleans and the fashioning of a Creole culture. Tales of life under French, Spanish, and eventually American rule will make this historic district come alive.

Meet at the New Orleans School of Cooking in the French Quarter, 524 St. Louis St. (between Chartres and Decatur), at 9:45am. The demo starts at 10am, and lunch is over by 12:30.

TO MEET FOR THE WALKING TOUR (1 pm start), walk two blocks to Jackson Square. From the Cooking School you can either take a right on Chartres or a left on Decatur and walk the two blocks. Your tour will meet beside the equestrian statue of Gen. Andrew Jackson in the middle of the Square.
